My girlfriend is going to move into her new office next week. I am responsible for the decoration so I decided to print two of my photographies of structures on canvas. The total size of both (combined) images will be about 130cm by 60cm. I’m already curious about the quality of the prints.

My mate Philipp and I have been working on a photo book of our journey to Japan. We took took thousands of pictures which doesn’t make it easy to fit them into a book. It took us days just to make a rough selection of pictures which should go into the book. The days of hard work are starting to pay off – we already layouted about ninety(!) pages. Just a few more days and we can send it to the printing press - hurray!
Those are two of my favorite double-page spreads:

Beautiful nature at the north peak of the island Okinawa (one of the most southern islands of Japan).

Impressions of Tokyo at night .

I finally pulled myself together and switched the CMS which runs my Weblog. I am now using Wordpress because it is widely spread and thus well supported, open source and straight forward to use. I found a very helpful tutorial on creating a wordpress template (German language) and was surprises how easy it was to create a theme from scratch which integrates perfectly into my portfolio site. The theme is quite basic yet, I’ll have to add functionality after some experimenting with wordpress and it’s possibilities.
Unfortunately I couldn’t find a simple way to import my existing posts into wordpress. So I did it by copy paste which turned out to work quite well in terms of preserving markup such as links and references to pictures or videos. It was a lot of (not the most exciting) work though.

Today I passed my diploma examination with honours! The exanimers really loved my project (more on that later) and I was able to answer all of the questions – even the so called “bonus question” of the head of our department. So the hard work was worth it in the end. Now I can relax for a few days and make some preperations before I starte to Japan. Hurray!

Since I didn’t take the time to write some entries to my blog for four months i think it’s time to burry it. I’ll remove the link from my homepage but keep the links from the projects.
Why did this weblog die (or is it just in coma)?
1.) Because of the fact that the commenting system has been spammed so much I had to disable comments permanently. Where is the point of a blog when you don’t get feedback? To solve that misery I planned to go for a different blog CMS, but it just didn’t happen.
2.) I was kind of lazy and bussy at the same time. I didn’t feel like having much time to spend on the blog.
3.) I have to run another blog for my diploma thesis: www.bodyofmemory.ch (German Language)
Feel free to browse the archives! I hope some day my blog will resurect. I just don’t know how and when..

Yesterday I went to the Resfest, which currently takes place in Amsterdam. I went to one workshop and three screenings of about 1:45 hours each – so I saw a lot of shorts as you can imagine. It was very inspiring, the range of the clips was very wide spread there were documentaries, motion graphics, 2d, 3d and analogue animations, short features, etc.
Some of them where really standing out, and the good thing was that I’ve seen almost none of them before. So for me it really was a firework of expression, beautiful colours, wicked animations and great stories.
I will post as many links as I can find of those amazing shorts. Dear visitors, please help me to extend the list! If you know links I missed out, or links to files with higher quality – please mail it to me!

RABBIT (Run Wrake)

JED’S OTHER POEM (Stewart Smith) [bad compression quality]
